Harassment in the workplace is something that no one welcomes or wishes to experience, however it is still one of the most under-reported subjects in the workplace and we are not on about internally, we are on about the guests, customers, tenants, clients, or even member of the public that step over the boundary line and create a high degree of stress for the employee. In this short video, we highlight the importance of having a conversation as many staff have not spoken about it and even though the subject is harassment it has moved into more of a stalking / stalked concern for many. You will see from many of our articles we have expressed a concern that these types of subjects and incidents are not as recognised as other things associated with health and safety. WhatsApp Groups do actually help organisations, departments and teams to keep connected during the working day and can assist in promoting personal safety while alone. The development and use of technology has drastically advanced over the years and the use of Apps and lone working devices has increased due to more staff reporting their concerns and potential risks when alone. Our suggestion to our clients is that using WhatsApp as a form of communication is always a good idea, however, we also ask them to make sure they implement guidelines or rules to ensure that this type of communication is used both professionally and safely. Incident Management and Workplace Violence is something that you would think happens a lot in organisations that have staff that face a level of abuse, threats and assaults; however, you might be misled as some organisations we have encountered don’t take this subject as a major problem compared to slips, trips and falls, but when it comes to recordings of incidents and accidents then workplace violence has topped a lot of them. The good news is that many staff in positions of reasonability are now aware of the issues and are tackling them head-on to either prevent or deter them, but some sectors still fail to see the importance of addressing issues relating to workplace violence and have a tendency to ignore the problem until it’s too late.
